Remixer Notes

Conceptually, I think a remix should take the song in a new direction without making it something that an original fan of the song wouldn?t appreciate. I tried to capture different feelings and ?vibes?, while retaining what I liked about the original version. I also wanted to see if I could make the remix pay homage to some of Peter?s other (and even more recent) work.

Technical Information

Okay, the first thing I noticed was that, for some reason, these tracks were all in tune with themselves, but completely out of tune in reference to A440. I don?t know if it was a glitch on my end (I?ve seen this happen when opening songs at the wrong sample rate ? but I double checked everything). Then I realized that I couldn?t get the tracks to line up with each other, time wise. Things kept drifting for me. Oh well, time to march on?

This entire mix was done in Logic, using only the original tracks and Logic plugins. The result of this was rather interesting. I knew that I couldn?t add anything of a tonal nature to this mix (as everything I use was out of tune with the song and I wasn?t going to spend days futzing over tuning concerns), so I took the process to it?s logical (pardon the pun!) conclusion and decided to not add anything. If I needed a synth bass I?d have to make it out of Tony?s Chapman stick.

It?s been quite a challenge, but (I think) I like the results. I hope you will too?

All the best,

Mark

Hi Mark there were lots of stuff in the forums over the months about the tuning and line up of the files

its a learning curve but it sounds like you did fine here :-)

Thanks a lot! It was a lot of fun. The limititations actually made it a little cooler to work with!

Cheers!

im not sure if it was originally in a 440 cus here in europa we use 442:-) :-) :-) :-)

Doesn't sound like you had any problems at all. Great mix! Feels modern, but very authentic. :-)

442?!?!?!? Wow. I feel so. un-enlightened. Seriously. Anyway, thanks to all that have chimmed in. I'm in awe of all the talent here. This has been as educational as it has been fun. :-x

Yeah, they were all sharp by about 25 cents I chopped em and put em in ther EXS and retuned from there.

You did a great job using the orginal tracks though!

Curious as to what you would have done adding instrumentation/

Good luck!:-)

In my opinion this mix is one of the few that actually does hold true to the original song. You've managed to capture the original essence of "Monkey" and enhanced it. It has a new "modern" feel to it.

Sweet changes at :52 and 1:42.

Overall great mixing!

mark,you made a great remix.reminds me of nine inch nails best work.greetings from jägermeistertown:-) :-) :-) :-)

Funny what you said about the tracks all being out of tune but in tune with each other. Being a complete novice I didn't try to introduce any other instruments and the tracks remained blissfully out of tune but in tune with each other, I never noticed nor cared. This mix is a little busy but interesting. Nice job.:-)

Funny, I never liked this song.Until now.

:-]

:-)

Ur a pimp! Ur lil' sis luvs it 4-sho! I gave it 5 stars! Lovesssssssss, Adrianne

Really great mix Mark!

It was always an "industrial" tune wasn't it? You stay true to it's roots while updating the vibe. Great interpretation on a very cool tune!

I've followed your work for years, Mark. This is yet another great remix in my book. It's very.what's the word.EXOTIC! -Sharky

This a great piece. Great job!

very special. good job.:-)

:-)

I think you did a prefect job of doing exactly what you set out to do. It's perfect. It's absolutely something different.but doesn't stray too far from the original. It's a exciting and refreshing version of the truth! Too much is TOO MUCH. This was just perfect.

Keep it up. I can't wait to hear more!

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) Now.If I could only figure out how the whole VOTING thing worked!

LOL

Ciao
