Remixer Notes

I've played with an existing country-drum loop and some virtual instruments. This is Shock the monkey from an italian point of view! I'm not a remixer, I'm a composer.

Enjoy!

Sorry for my english.

Technical Information

I didn't use original sounds but only the PG leadvox and b_vox. I used a country-drum loop taken from "BigFish brush artistry"; some free soundfonts, some sounds from halion library and superquartet.

my toys: pc athlon64, m-audio audiophile, cubase 5, superquartet and kontakt 2.

Comments

Absolutely superb. Stunning piece of work.

I was waiting for Django Reinhardt to appear during this! Very inventive.:-)

WOW. Speechless i could say more but whats the point:-) :-)

Interesting flavor. Very creative. I like it.

Simply fantastic

Shocking! Shocking!

fun!:-)

Hehe, shocking indeed! Great work. Love the accordion. Really nice . The "piano stop" is cool as well. Great idea :-)

Not the best remix but surely the best idea!

You are composing very well. Up! Down! Up! Down!

Che bella :-) Did you *only* used samples or did you play some parts too?

I played all parts (virtual instruments) except the country-drum loop.

Wasnt this in the wedding scene in the Godfather ?

I like it !:-)

That's weird as hell - just as the original was in 1982, I guess. Double-time Italian country wedding waltz. Pour the vino.

I would love to see the sounds a little more processed.

A 30's sound-song like this can be processed? In my opinion it would be wrong.

However in the next days I will introduce a new version: with a more realistic 30's sound (vinyl-disturbed)

Lets Tango.

A great diffirent aproach.:-)

Great work and very creative . that's what I call "think outside the box"! I am a fiddler/violinist and I'd love to put some real fiddle on that track.

Thanks to all of you for good rating and comments!

Inventive but I don't like it. But that is what I think of it from a listeners point of view as an artists poitn of view it's genious. Sorry I'm to lazy to spell check.

Guitargodgt sorry but with my english I don't understand what you mean. A listener point of view as artist point of view?? Can you explain better?

Superb!

My favourite so far - love it!

This was fantastic:-) :-]

Superb! What Fun!:-)

Brilliant! Inspired! :-)

Simg

Ah Filippo! Brilliant fun! I'm having all kind of mental images of David Rhodes playing the mandoline.

Hey Filippo, you are the post-modern Nino Rota!

I think a CD with pop-rock versions it would be a succes for you.

Very nice idea. Great musicality.

Five stars. Added to my favorites.

Great idea, I like it very much. Not a Shock more of a shake, shake your thing brother, thank you for creating this music.

Superb!!!!!!:-)

Its me again - cant stop listening to this track. Now that Ive recovered from the initial blinding brilliance of it, I can now say that the piano dynamic at 1.05 is totally inspired and makes me smile every time.

To me it seems this mix is the one that "fits" the vocal best so far.

nice composition, but the audio quality makes it sound amateurish

Great idea! Not so thrilled with the GM sounds tho. Either you process those so they sound even more computerish and processed OR go 100% live musicians.

Use better samples, NEVER GM sounds!

You rule!:-]

Mental!

Unbelievable - fabulous piano stop.:-)

This is wonderfull and sounds modern as well ( as the gypsy punk is modern these days)

This is great. Unbelievable musically. My statue of Dante is smiling, and it takes a lot to get him to smile! That's a lot of fun and some serious music all together. Well done. Grazie (some day I'll learn Italian.).

GO! GO! Gypse-swinging-monkey-fun! I luv this! :-)

Unbelievably brilliant !

Where's Django ?:-)

it would be great if you got this recorded with live brass and strings!:-)

Purely Fantastic!

Very cool!!

strange, but cool :-)

Love it - but what I really want to hear is this played by a real ensmble. The instrumentation is great, the idea works really well, but I'd like to hear it on real instruments and unquantised.

Oh just read someone said something similar above.

I don't want to detract from the great idea though - and the high musicality content. This has got to be up there amongst the best overall.

Great idea :-]

Really and truly one of the most unique takes on these remixes, and it totally works! Very nice!

Very unique, I'm only not so sure about the brass sounds, but 4 Stars from here! Great work, man!!:-)

ha! great fun! i really enjoyed listening to this. it got my feet tapping so fast i nearly did myself an injury!!

That was fun!!!!!!! :-) :-) :-)

GRANDE!!!!

great Fun! :-]

:-] :-] :-]PETER DOES THE EDINBURGH FRINGE.

grandiosa! 5 stelle:-)

Awesome mix! Makes me hungry! :-)

When ol Doghouse heard this he wanted to stick a rose between his teeth, grab his good lady wife, and dance like the wind. Woof.:-]

3 Stars very very close to 4. Only the part with "heee monkey, monkeeey." is out of tune and rythm. Maybe leaf away some parts of the vocals.

The rest is perfect and great.

Goes to my favorites.

I love it. You're in my top ten. GL.

Really original one. Great execution. I like it!

VERY original idea! I like it.

This Remix is my Favorit it Sounds so nice all togheter, The Voice of Peter Gabriel comes very good with that Sound. Very good Idee with this Mafioso Version, My Respect to you.

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

clever but not true to the spirit of the original at all. There is no relationship between the emotional tone of the voice and the lyrics on the one hand, and the musical content on the other. well done but not my thing:-(

A pleasant move from "high tech" to "real" sound. Bravo. Pour me another glass of Chianti and scoot over closer. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Excellent!

this is so great. its what i needed. seems like most of these remixes are downtempo dirges. i need something uplifting. yours is amazing. 5 stars!!!:-)

L'originalité a son comble, cela change des remixes electros habituels!!!

I Like :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

It is really good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

you are on my top ten:-)

Fillipo, ol pal, when ol Doghouse first got inta this dang contest the first mix he heard that made him sit up and beg was yors. I love it dang near to death. From my top ten (and apparently everybody elses too!) to number three!!! Congratulations! And their ain't nobody I'd rather share that great honor with. Thanks for makin us all happy with yor wonderful rendition!!:-)

Doghouse, I'm sorry to not speak english properly (I cannot explain well what I mean), but I am very happy to read your message and for me too it's an honor to be third with you!

Thanks to you and thanks to all who partecipated in this great competition.:-]

Seems I really missed this one, sorry.

Congratulations.

keep up the good work

CONGRATULATION!!!

It fits into Armacord atmosphere.

Best wishes from Vienna, cm (Monkey_Duet page 9)

I'm taking a ride on a sunny sunday in the Tuscan countryside and all of a sudden i hear this relaxing remix of shock the monkey and i fall into a dream state and drive off the road, striking a cheese cow. no, wait.I liked the song. thanks from nantucket.:-)

that piece is a very, very great thing - sounds like a "hit". . . :-x

So.,melancholik and romantic.:-) :-x

Fantastic! It makes it so easy to disconnect from the original and appreciate as a new composition.

I was surprised to realize how much of the perceived menace on the original mix comes from backtrack, not singing.

Sure, if it were recorded for this composition, the singing would be softer. but listen to the "cover me" at 2:17. so pleading now!

When I first started listening, it sounded like it belonged on a new Mario Brothers game. Like Mark Twain said about Wagner's music, it's better than it sounds. But that's just an american point of view I guess. It sounds good, but just not my style.

Very spontaneous and unexpected! Bravissimo!!:-)

Filippo, it just stays Superb.

Heared about 100 times now and still feels like a sky clearing up, makes me smile all the time and let my face look up into the sun.

Keep up the good work

bella 5 estella

cia'o da mexico :-x

FANTASTICA! LA VOGLIO!:-)

this is cool.

sicilian style jealousy.

bravo!

the shock the monkey chorus in the end is the best

Filippo - I would love to be able to use this on my podcast "Podrunner". (Of course I would credit you and link to your site!) Any chance of getting a 320K mp3? This is just wonderfully imagined and well done!

Hello Steveboy, I can't give any mp3 because there are rules about rights, you know. You may ask to a webmaster about this idea. but I think that this will be not possible. Thanks a lot of course.

The only one thing that you can do is to link this page. but not to include in a podcast I presume

Oh, duhh - sorry, in my relentless enthusiasm I wasn't thinking about the copyright issues for the PG source tracks. Oh, well! Great track, though!

Bravo,quelle creativite,pour moi la meilleure version !!! :-)

Ciao Filippo. Tutt´a posto? Pity that I didn´t listen to your work earlier. For me this is definitively the winner, no matter wht the rest says. Go on doing crazy things like this. Grazie. :-)

brilliant idea. well recorded.

i like it better than the winning tune.

This is crazy cool! Great, better than the original. Ok, your sounds are not the best, but, hey, as you wrote, you are a composer! I can imagine that playing by a real band and that would be fantastic :-)

"E' un mondo difficile, la vita e' intensa, felicita' momenti e futuro incerto."

Well done, Filippo, very mediterranean or milonga, davvero!:-)

HAHAHA!!!! HAven't heard this before! I was smiling all the time listening to this stuff!!! Very nice, pro-mde and it's got a uniq energy!!! Great!

Come to listen to the remixes fo mine! 0

Oh< i remember this piece! ))) Great!
