Remixer Notes
Wail, today's the fourth of July and that means "Independence Day" over here in the bad (formerly good) ol USofA. But, listen, the Brits is glad to be shut of us anyway. We ain't nothin but a bunch a mangey mutts and pushy types that thank we're all better'n anythang or anybody. Whose ta say if that's true or not? Not me anyways. But since ol Simon didn't want no one screwin with his ol magnum opus too much (even tho that's what the dang thangs about!) I left it purty much alone as it reminded me of all them great fifties and sixties surf ballads and Beach Blanket Bingo movies, cause after all they's nothin but the same ol story anyways. Get a guy. Get a Gal. Get em up a tree. Shake a stick at em. Then get em down. Only how come the little girl always has ta git bit by the dreadful snake and the guy's always a shitheel? So I'm dedicatin this one ta Simon. Hope ya like it, ol pal. And to each and every one a you remixers all over this ratty ol planet let me just say on this our special day I wish ya nothin but peace and love and understandin. And like ol Elvis Costello says: "what's so bad about that"? So here's what I suggest ya do tonite. Take Misty or Dee Dee or whatever yor lil darlin's name is by the hand, grab a blanket and head out to the beach cause the stars are out and the surf's up. And, at least for today, who say's it ain't great to be an American? Cowabunga!!
Technical Information
A deep and abidin respect for the oral tradition of folk and popular music.
And a certain devil may care attitude that both enthralls and annoys folks at the same time.

Dougie, Dougie. This is a very nice piece of work. Your customary humour is (mostly) put in check, leaving room for some excellent music.
This is a very respectful take on Ol' Hailey, and it just makes me very happy to listen to.
BTW - to me it's not just old beach surfing music, but also echoes of XTC/Prefab Sprout - especially at 1:55.
My only nags are that when you use synthezised realistic instruments (strings, sax, .) and they don't sound 100% realistic, it sort of takes away some of the enjoyment for me.
But you know me. I'm just saying that to balance the universe a bit, and to justify giving you a 5/5.
Yea, ya know I recently chucked a buncha my outboard stuff (Triton, XV3080, others) which I'd always used for my (I guess you could say) "fake" strings and now I got a bunch a real high dollar Orchestra packages that are as real as ya can get, but I guess I ain't got the hang of em yet as I too was frustrated by that. I'm gonna get em down tho. But ifn ya liked them strings on my "Goodnight Little Angel" they was all "Atmosphere", about as fake as you can get, yet they sound bettern real to me. Go figure. But. . .er. . .that there is a real sax, ol pal.
Hahaha.
Umm.
Well, I clearly thought the sax sound was _so real_ that it _had_ to be a fake.
Yeah, I shouldn't be allowed out much.
So.
Thanks anyway.
You are a master at vocal manipulation / arrangement and to do it this well you need a broad understanding of what to do with it all in the first place. And this shows ya got it.( as if we did'nt know). Happy Fourth
Just freakin great.it sounds like poetry to me.
Echo LS' comment. The background vox are hilarious and i actually like that at times 'tacky' sound. Glad you mentioned "Goodnight Little Angel" above to put this one more in to (your) perspective. Fantastic version.
great stuff - now where's my andy williams LP
country gospel family rocking on the decking
The vocal manipulation is great and once again you back all the words up with a very good deedy indeedy!!.
Excellent!!
I tell you Doghouse, This Brit Loves Ya!
Happy 4th
Superb work, made my evening!
Simg
Fantastic!
Clock's just turned past midnight on the 4th. Yankee perserverance triumphant as my neighbor got his fireworks off in the pouring rain.
Bless you Doghouse Riley! This mix is just terrific, Broad smiles all around.
It is rather funny that when I was thinking of resetting this song (although I lack the skills to do it) I was reminded of a Shakespeare play I once saw in London staged in a beauty parlor in the 1950's. Maybe you were receiving the vibes.
Five stars and a collection of doggy potty references that I am simply too polite to repeat!
Hate to be a spoil sport but a certain Nick Lowe would take issue with crediting Elvis Costello with the penning of the lyrics you quote re: peace love and understanding. Not a huge fan of his but I did just hear him interviewed on NPR (Mr. Lowe that is), he's a clever laddy and deserves the credit what's due him, eh?
Magician that you are ! The most spectacular transfiguration ever listened on the site ! You made an excellent work on this, bravo !!!!
wow
you know when a sample pack have been out for a while and the remixes keep coming in, it can get a little repetitive.
this just made all that go away.
high five!
Doghouse, you are a genius!
I'm sure old Pete gave a lot of sighs remembering his youth's summers spent near that jukebox____ Watching that gal that he liked a lot____ and that didn't love him, but his best friend, of course!!!

Thanks for existing
5 from me
just great. stunning, how you can manipulate those vox. besides this; you have an excellent voice yourself.
thanx for another unbelievable track.
Respect. I can visualize Michael J. Fox peeping around the corner in his hometown in "Back to the future" when he realizes that he's been time-warped back into the Fifties. Full nuggets, Doghouse.
dont know why I should be amazed but I am, very well done Doghouse. Sending a stream so powerful you could carve ya initials into the lamp post with it
Brilliant!. Seems somehow redundant to praise your amazing vocal manipulation skills when they sit right next to this kind of musicianship and real subtle sense of satire - but I will anyhow!. Dogs surely can hear some things way out of human range.
love the fade out too. btw
Can't stop listening to this.
And since last 24 hrs I've got an idiot smile on my face.
Can someone help me please?
Professional artwork with a BIG SMILE!
Shub Shub dubidabdey! Like the score for "American Graffity".
It is hard to believe, that this shall be a real sax. At least you are foolin us?
Full house
Great and well done track.
My hand for that.
Fantastic!
Smiling all the time !!
Thank you for all this good energy
Doghouse for President!
As Meg Ryan said on JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO, "I Have No Response For That".
Whoa! A totally unexpected mash that exudes quality and has put the biggest smile on my face since, ooo, who knows when. I just downloaded this sample set and was bowled over backward with what I heard, then I thought âletâs see what tothers have doneâ. This was my first hit. Need beer, need beer. Break out the sanity pills wife!
Dog,
This is freakin Brilliant!!
Your just over holdin court aint ya? - another clinic and I love it - Thnks for the help as always buddy!! Keep teaching - someday I'll get of the porch
America of the 50's and old England of the 18th century., I can't imagine two worlds more distant than those
. But I love the opposites and your work is funny and brilliant as usual!
^^^^^
You and Mel been drinkin again
Amazing. 5/5
Boring, musically uninspired, humour- and senseless!
Just to mention a few things you won't ever find written beneath this marvelous version of this song.
Doghouse, every song of yours shows this special sense of humour (I know you don't understand what I'm talking about right now.
) and is more than just remixing. This one is so great again! Doghouse and Melodyne seem to fit like Laurel and Hardy. And so do Doghouse and RWR.
Please stay tuned, even if there is not so much traffic here today.
Greetings
Andreas
Can't wait for your compilation remix album. And as Eric Von Zipper himself said - I like you. And when Eric Von Zipper likes someone, they stay liked. Great stuff.
ARE YOU CRAZY ???
Realy genius. Good continuation
"chou"."chou"."chou" .arf
Once again, brilliant stuff, Doghouse! I just love the way you twisted and mangled the vocal lines in such a tasteful way! Well done. 5/5 without a doubt!
Simply brilliant!
Strange 50´s midi piece, but like we say in Spain, a chineese work with the voice tracks.
Funny, but I think this is more serious
Actually i was going to say that too, but i am far to polite.
Like we say in the UK , I blame Christopher Columbus .
Wail, I'm just glad that somebody with a little perspicacity has finally been able to see what I was after here. . .a chineese work with the voice tracks. Hell, I'da thought that you, LS, coulda seen it from a mile away. But now, a course, I just cain't believe ya when ya say that "you was gonna say that too." It's just too dang convenient. But, yea, ol Chris Columbus has got a shitload to answer for. I'll give ya that.
Hi Doghouse Riley
I love this song because its not a remix like many in this competition, with ideas and elements from pg`s soundcreations.
5 Points for your excellent work with voices.
Hahahaha! That's awesome.
Thanks for the comments Doghouse!
I lost your personal e-mail when my computer crashed. When you have a moment, drop me a line at sean@oneilpacific.net so I can keep in touch.

I can only bow my head and take my hat off.
Doghouse you are a mad, inspired genius.no one expected this! You walk in the footsteps of Zappa.
respect.
Simon Emmerson
Imagined Viilage
Just played it to Chris Wood and we both agree it should be the track we play as we finally leave the stage and take a bow as a band on the Imagined Village November tour. Well done Doghouse, you've made it up on the stage with us. Next time you're in the Village I'll buy you a pint at my local. Come late November expect a wave of confused English folk purists trying to work out what's going on. check the Imagined Village forum for feedback once it's kicked in.
Simon
Will do, Simon ol pal. Thanks for yor kind words an all. Glad ya liked my ol magnum opus. And ifn yor ever in my honest-ta-gawd-real-and-not-imagined village stop by and I'll grill ya a steak and make ya the best dang martini you've likely ever had. Just hope none a yor fans gets too addled or nothin by my foolish gibberish. Woof!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Ifn ya want a "real" version of it in full wave format instead a that there puny, pantywaisted MP3, Just let me know through the PM thang and I'll doll one up and send her on.
I am writing to ask how it is that we are encouraging such a dilution of England's musical purity to take place. In the hand's of this musician, for one can hardly call hime a composer, a rich and compelling tale of lust has been reduced to a sacharine outrage!!
If the efforts of Mr Riley are the future for England's indigenous music.THEN I WANT A PIECE OF IT!
It's not every day one gets to write to a card carrying genius.
Chris W.
Hey Doggie, whats that about a wave? are u sure? a microwave? or perhaps did you ment a mexican wave?
![:-]](smilies/embarrased.gif)
But right now I will throw my hands high in the air for ya ol pal.
Amazingly well done and many fullsquad nugget congrats.
Congrats on being part of an imagined village___ and somehow Von Triers' Dogville comes to mind. Is that funny or what?
Way to go DR.
Love it, brilliant.and congrats Dog!
With folks drawing comparisons between my most recent ditty and the Doghouse house style, it's prompted me to give this tune another listen. And it can stand repeated listening - still makes me smile. Lovely idea. Great work on the vocals, and it was nice of 10cc to pop in for the middle-8!
Just a couple of very very minor niggles, which I think have already been mentioned. I have to agree that the strings sound is distractingly cheesy. And I can understand why some folks could mistake the sax for a sampler - the notes are so short and dry, there's little time for any sign of humanity to come through. Maybe a bit more reverb would've helped it come to life? Apart from that, it works a treat.
I can imagine a village with this playing on the pub jukebox - they'd probably have a Wicker Man.
what happened to the original song that i didnt really want to remix?!?!?! that track was amazin man! now THAT version id want to remix!
yeah i know id only destroy it but it'd be fun!
quality
Great Remix.very magic!
Pffffchch. Either Godley or Creme has time to burn?

Oh yea, I almost forgot, that there's George McMoran and Matt Dickson on the background vocals and the real-honest-ta-goodness Gospel Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Gerald Williams on the bass vocals. Ain't they somethin?!
