Remixer Notes
I was thinking about the lyrics to this song and how incredibly dark they were. Very apocalypic. So I had this idea of dropping the vocals really low to bring out the intensity. Then I felt it needed a really simple but heavy drum beat under it. Once that was done the rest just kind of led itself. I really wasn't intending on the final product to be quite so heavy. But I must do what the voices in my head tell me to. ;-)
Technical Information
Drums done in Reason.
The rest just mixed in Pro Tools LE. I took the choir part and reversed it, then stretched it way out to give that very creepy background weirdness.

Sonic gymnastics put to good use. Very good work.
Kinda agree with spinmeister. The entire thing seems to be pitched down (it isn't, i know) wich makes it somewhat hard to listen to. A 'dark message' doesn't have to sound dark to come across. However, i totally agree on your motivation and feelings about these lyrics.
Psychotic! Good work!
Thanks everyone! In response to spinmeister. I duplicated the regular vocals to another track and then dropped the pitch on that one. Then I kept both vocals tracks for most of the process and would experiment with keeping them both in the mix and then taking one out. I kept being drawn back to just using the lower vocals. Partly to contrast the choir vocals sharply, and partly because it really forces you to listen not only more to the lyrics, but to every crevasse of his voice. And his voice is so incredibly rich and textural I wanted to bring that out.
One of the things that struck me was, even though I kept everything in the original tempo, the sparse drum beat coupled with the lowered vocals really makes it sound incredibly slow. An Audio illusion perhaps?
Oh and yes, I also laid down the fuzz bass and noisy guitar parts. Too much Bauhaus? ![:-]](smilies/embarrased.gif)
Great interpretation of the lyrics. Chillingly dark.perfect for this time of year. Keep up the good work!
Deep & dark - good work.
(By the way, I don't think you can have too much Bauhaus).
Like the guitar work and the drums
3 stars
I cant get past the low pitch voice here. It might have been more effective to mix the original pitch in with the lower octave and then even take one an octave higher. Its a dark mix but a little to gimmicky imho but great to have yet another version of this on the site as they seem to be coming very slowly.
That sounds really cool. I like the dirt. The rev chior was a nice touch.
Smooth dark minimal an effective.
ACHTUNG! per SPINMEISTER's suggestion i re-did the mix with the original vocals back in it. as in the non-pitch-lowered-spawn-of-satan vocals. and it was much better! it was a great idea and it really turned out well.
i uploaded it last night and it is called "Slightly Less Demonic of Days" and you can go to my remixer page to hear it or this is the direct link http://www.realworldremixed.com/remix.php?remix_id=7Epmr6LwzLvf0QGO
let me know what you think!
It's nice too hear more extreme experimentation at this site, so this is a welcome mix to my ears.
It's exciting for me to imagine WHO is behind the music. It's impossible to separate the soul from the creation of the soul.
Who Are You VOX?
One thing you're not lacking: in courage!
Go ON!!!
5 dark stars from hell.
I wish i could hear Joy Division and Sonic Youth playing together ! Now it's done with an extra voice on it ! More than I expected ! Many thanks for those unbelievable good vibes.
I Had a great laugh while reading Thukol's comment
Well done. Good guitar filling. "Hell boy" is a good singer! Terrific voice FX and lots of communication with the voices in your head
Good music to put in the back ground of a 5 star restaurant! It'll tare the building down!
This quite unbelievable remix. Like hammering your head with the sledge-hammer. Heavy heavy.

I think the heaviness is justified because of the lyrics. And I like the drum beat, the reversal of the choir - and I assume that is your good guitar work throughout.
Just curious, did you ever try to leave the lead vocal closer to its natural place after you had the other parts and the main mix done? I assume that moving the lead vox that far down was part of the overall process of inspiration for the rest of the song. But now I wonder what your remix would sound like with the voice (which is naturally low and rich) in its regular pitch. It might leave all the power and drama in your remix, put make it a little less gadgety (is that a word?)
If you want to, send me a PM, if it's just a technology issue (i.e. changing tempo without changing pitch).
