spinmeister Comments on Other's Remixes
it's been a good week, I see
to anyone who may be listening to this stellar remix and still reading, check this out:
http://ccmixter.org/files/Loveshadow/16495
astounding!
Great to see this one back in circulation! I think it had achieved some cult status amongst those of us who had heard it the first time around!
yep - wonderful playing - just needs to be set free from this particular vocal track. Or a dose of Melodyne, but that would probably defeat the purpose.
I agree with HM - for my ears your best remix yet. A wonderful sonic landscape, allowing the mind to wander by following the ears. The extreme panning is needed to make the effect noticeable on speakers. On headphones it may be a bit more than needed. But that's one of those classic trade-offs between mixing for speaker listening or for headphone listening. Unfortunately you can't have both.
Wonderful job!
love the minimalist approach in this version. A nice display of your incredible breadth of musical skill.
wow - I think I got a headache from reading so many deeply analytical comments. Luckily your remix was soothing enough to make things well again! However now I'll have to get my blood sugar levels tested
Thanks to Colab for making me aware of this stunning piece of work. Hauntingly beautiful and refined. And yes, the sax is gorgeous! A valuable addition to my fave's! Really nice work, RT!
I am embarrassed only to find out about this remix in a very non-internet way from a mutual friend.
What a fabulous piece of music! You are showing off an additional facet of your incredible musical versatility and skill. This remix firmly entrenches you as one of very elite remixers I have had the pleasure of listening to. 5 stars, or as they say on eBay: A : would listen to this remixer again!
way to go out with a bang. fab remix even 4 you!
I had this remix in my favorites from when I first heard it, but realized just now, that I had never commented on it. Sorry about that! - This is an outstanding remix - so very tasteful all around, and yes, after the change at 4:00 minutes, I wanted to hear a lot more of that
A great remix indeed!
the monks sound a bit like a mellotron, which is ok - they just might do a little better, if mixed just a bit more into the background. Overall a really nice and interesting take on the original.
Congratulations on making the weekly top 20! Well deserved!
A wonderful remix with an important message. A great idea to utilize the good music of DJ Rkod for this remix.
On the production side, the strong reverb in the opening vocal line makes a lot of artistic sense to me (a lonely voice bouncing off cold walls with nobody listening/responding). However I wonder, if it might work a little better, if that track had a little less volume within the mix. That might create a little more musical balance.
A wonderful remix and a well deserved top position in the weekly ratings.

two enormous ice-creams is more reward than most of us get for our music !
holy retro! Well you made that old Mac sing and dance.
Although how are your monitoring speakers/headphones? At least on my speakers, the top end seems just a bit more overbearing than what I'm hearing from most other music (from here and other places) on thos speakers. That makes the remix sound just a bit on the harsh side for my ears. Otherwise this remix is a lot of good clean fun! I think I'll go now, and put on an old KLF CD
Overall a fun remix, which brings back fond memories of my first little studio in the 80s. Atari 1040, Fostex 8-track, Roland TR 606 and 707 drum machines, DX 100 and Juno 60 synths (which I still have). My last days of gigging live, playing covers from Flock of Seagulls, Thomas Dolby, Peter Shilling, Falco, . ahhh the good old days!
I hope you obtained sampling rights clearance from Tommaso and Francesco
I think your remixing career is off to a wonderful start.
I understand that you were trying to have two moods, but the part starting around 0:53 really is a powerful production idea and then the guitar riffs starting at 1:30 take it to the next level. It really left me wishing for more exploration and working with and around those excellent ideas.
I can't wait to hear your next remix.
What an interesting and sophisticated drum feel underneath the tasteful and intelligent arrangement. Is there such a thing as a waltz with 4 beats?
This remix deserves a hot pick on my list any day. An outstanding piece of music, which really carves it's own unique place here. I hope to hear more of your work!
What a great remix! It's very well thought out, with some interesting musical twists, yet it never forgets to have fun. I especially love those little semi-tonal string riffs, which start to appear before just a little the 3:00 minute mark!
And if it makes your girlfriend dance, don't change a thing!
Ausgezeichnet!
Congratulations Oxxo!!! I have to admit to my total embarrassment, that I had missed this gem of a remix of yours. I'm glad rwrm and PG didn't, and by you being in the winner's circle they have shown that all of the ratings and hot picks craziness can't stand in the way of a great piece of music.
A well deserved prize for a very intelligent and skillfully executed remix! And I love your work over at MI7.com, too!
Congratulations on your well deserved success! The effortless easy, with which you travel between hardcore classical music and modern electronica is astounding. You are amongst a very small elite of world class musicians with such incredible breadth. Your remixes have ranked amongst my very favorites from the first one, and having you play the cello in this one was the treat which took everything over the top. Thanks for the music!
Congratulations on being on the podium again! If remixing was football, you'd be Brazil. You may not win every world cup, but you are the acknowledged standard setter. You play the game with unparalleled passion, elegance, skill and professionalism. We all want to watch (listen to) every game you play (remix you make), we follow every move, we are amazed at the technical tricks in your arsenal, and with every new remix of yours we want to scream GOOOOOOOOOOOOL for a few minutes. And then we hit the rewind button to see (listen to) it again and again and again.
And most of all, you inspire us to play the game ourselves. We imagine ourselves as you, imitate a trick or two to the best of our abilities - although we usually don't come close
. But nonetheless we dream on and play on.
Thanks for being here, your comments from insightful , supportive and kind to incredibly funny. And above all, your stunning remixes here and elsewhere
two for two - wow!!! Congratulations Multiman! And thanks for not submitting a Joi remix to leave some of us mere mortals a fighting chance
.

unique and musically interesting - nice vocal trickery!
yeah the instrumental at mi7 really works!
wow - this one grabs you with the opening chord/sound and never lets go. What an absolutely fabulous remix. An instant favorite of mine. Just one problem: Wish I would have made that one!
I agree with LS, you should post this somewhere without the vocals - that is a really compelling composition you've got going there and I would just love to hear it by itself (and/or some of your other work)!
how about Kermit and Miss Piggy as the duet? I hear Susy1214 might be able to round up a background choir of frogs!
More seriously: An absolutely beautiful rendition. Warm atmosphere, fabulous Melodyne trickery and you gotta love that Telecaster! Great work!
Another outstanding remix and such eloquent words. This place has been enriched by your remixes and your presence. I really hope to find out where I might find some of your other work. Thanks!
blush
What an all around interesting and enjoyable remix! Your imagination and creativity are second to none. Great work!
One of these nights, you'll have to record those frogs and incorporate them into your next remix!
I've had the fortune to have done the PCH drive a couple of times - yeah
Good remix for good memories
you snuck ole Pete saying your name in there at the end, didn't ya? So that video snippet from the STM contest announcement may have been the best prize of all.
Another all around tour-de-force from you - humor, skill and intelligence all wrapped into a great package. Your bank account's loss is our gain!
p.s. I'm partial to Joe Cocker's take on that Randy Newman song
An interesting concept, very well executed. Your remixes always provoke a little thought in addition to the musical enjoyment. It reminded me a bit of many happy occasions in my childhood of singing Canons with the family or in larger groups.
MASSIVE! Big drums - big mix - I like it a lot!
Hehe - by the comments I see, that you've experienced your fair share of ratings mayhem as well. I know exactly what you mean. It's happened to me quite a few times as well. My latest remix fell like a rock leading up to the top 20 time on Sunday afternoon. From 4.9 to 3.4 in about 36 hours! But don't let them get you down - your work stands on it's own just fine - damn the torpedoes!
From your remixer page:
Macstar has given an average vote of 0.2500 stars and has rated 8 remixes.
Simon, is that you?
great drum beat! It is a very interesting complement to the 12/8 of the song. I love your story, too. oink!
Sorry about misunderstanding your forum post.
What an interesting take on the original. Once one understands the idea, that this was never intended to be a techno dance remix, but more of an unplugged tribal party, it wouldn't make any sense to have a bass. Although I agree with the comment, that it might have driven the point home even more to have no english lyrics at all.
Great remix! Hoping to hear more from you!
I can hear all of your distinct signatures in this, yet it fully works as a cohesive work. What can I say - I think I'm envious!
Fabulous result of your collaboration. It came out so well, it should encourage more collaborations around here.
What a wonderful final chapter from you. It's no secret, that your remixes are amongst my very favorites here.
With some time off from remixing, I hope that you might maybe do some fully original work whether alone or in collaboration. I'd love to hear more of your work!
I love it! Brings back some very fond memories of when I bought my first album by Yello. I'm really glad you unearthed this, finished and posted it. There's nothing wrong with a bit of dark humor!
Great remix!
This remix is an interesting experiment in telling a story. Although music and movies are relatively linear forms of communication, writing is arguably the most linear form.
Music, movies, even paintings can have several things going on at the same time, and our eyes and ears can soak in these multiple proceedings or images simultaneously.
However in writing there's only one word at a time. A scene with multiple components is still described one word at a time. A story is told one word at a time. It is up to our mind to store the words in memory and to every once in a while put the whole scene together.
One might think, therefore that words are a rather inferior method of communication. - But how come that we hear or say so many times, that the book was better than the movie? Is it maybe because with a written story our minds work harder and create a more intense experience? Is it because we subconsciously fill in more details in a written story, than the author actually told us?
This remix reminds me a lot of a written story. It seems to consist of sonic words and sentences, mostly linearly arranged over time. Words form sentences. Sentences form paragraphs. Paragraphs form chapters and the chapters form the book.
This highly linear approach challenges the mind to put the whole musical story together over time. And it allows space for filling in additional detail with one's own imagination.
Just like with a book, the remix takes us through the story in a very linear fashion. It leaves room for the mind to fill in additional detail.
That being said, in this remix, every word, every scene has depth, much like an author with a rich vocabulary. From a technical perspective this is the most depth I've heard in any of your remixes yet. It sounds really neat.
Given what you have previously said on this site about words being your primary weapon, it sure makes sense that you made THIS remix.
An unusual remix which challenges the listener to let go of more typical expectations of song structure. Yet once one lets go and just follows the musical "words" of this remix, it's a magical journey!
whoa - that changes things! I had no idea this vocal treatment would grow on me so quickly. You dared to go far outside the box and your risk taking paid off. I really like how you are exploring all over the musical landscape with your remixes and doing it so well. Your imagination and skill are impressive and I just happen to like the resulting music very much!
this concept does indeed deserve a full length remix
LS at his lush finest. How do you get so much warmth into a single remix? A bit of magic.
Interesting that surfing evokes such a peaceful imagery with you, where to the casual observer it might seem more of a wild, semi-chaotic activity full of adrenalin. Maybe it's similar to skiing in the Rocky Mountains ;-) Although it's generally an adrenalin filled activity, there are these amazing "slow motion" moments of tranquility in the middle of a high speed run, where the whole universe seems to be in balance for a few seconds.
Listening to your remix, the universe is in balance for 6:07.

I second the motion for a full original song!
incredible - you took this song into a whole new place. And with so many remixes here already, you've still been able to create something unique.
Your new parts really work - they stand out, yet support the song.
Your remix could be used in advertising for Garageband - you are doing such good work with that software.
What can I say - this remix is just flat out wonderful! It deserves a bit of extra volume
Irene is a lucky girl to have such a good remix in her honor!
A very uplifting happy remix, really professionally executed - like all of your remixes!
Top notch!
wow - amazing remix! Sends shivers down my spine. I love how it effortlessly combines dance and ambient characteristics. Nice jazzy chords (nice progression, by the way!) combined with effective use of dramatic loop/sample shots.
After hearing your great remix with your friends in the real band, now listening to your mad skillz with software and loops is a real treat. Absolutely fabulous!
The really scary thing about this remix is, that sounds even better the second time, third time, forth time, etc. around.
A stunning piece of work!
The beat treatment is really intriguing. It's almost like making an ambient rhythm. It's most certainly not your grandmother's waltz
Although I'm a little confused as to which half of my brain is supposed to enjoy this more. On one hand one can really go into analytical mode to figure out what you have done and how the 12/8 vocals interact with the 3/4 - and on the other hand one can just sit back, relax and enjoy the spa treatment.
Really good and interesting remix!
nice chord alterations - a really well thought out and finely crafted remix throughout. you do very nice work around here!
outstanding intro - great groove throughout. Many great atmospheric textures everywhere. Dynamics, tension - love the little subtle touches of your telecaster. And for my ears on my speakers, I liked the different vocal treatments including the more distant one's - takes a bit out of the harshness out of the originals. A great remix all around!
Nice chord progression. And of course, your guitar playing is always nice and your messing with guitar effects is great, too. Be careful with those synths, once you start, they can become quite addictive
Another really nice remix from you RJ!
you are quickly becoming on of my favorite remixers around here. Really great live feel - controlled aggression at it's very finest!
wow! Absolutely fabulous! I love your guitar work around the well chosen drum track. The whole mix really works for me. Well deserved hot pick indeed!
There's a lot to like about this remix! Giving this more of a metal flavor is a really great idea. Fabulous guitar work! Towards the end, one of your guitar tracks sounds almost like a synth track. The double bass track is also a very unique idea, and the only thing I was wondering, if the bass drum would be a little less overwhelming, if it was more of a lower EQ'd sound. Great remix!
I guess they were all wrong when they said an old dawg can't learn new tricks!
It's nice to see (first in the forum and now with this remix) that in addition to your sharp intellect and wit you have a rather mushy side. Looks good on you!
Really nice job, AT! I like how you introduced a bit of child's play into the remix. Overall the atmosphere reminds me a little of Deep Forest, one of my all time favorites! Great remix!
That round bass makes my subwoofer really happy to get a workout in. I agree with The_Joe - remove the vocal tracks and it's a perfect day at the spa!
LS gets a Hot Pick? - Aaahh, Lent is almost over - it's all starting to make sense
Classy remix all the way - the groove really works and the execution is tasteful and exquisite. I do like a quiet latin groove very much (I'm a big fan of Cesaria Evora!), and this is the kind of music and production I tend to buy.
2 great remixes for the price of one! And it looks like lots of drinking all over the world today! Heck, why not - Lent is almost over!
Both parts sound exquisite with their own charm - have you considered removing the first part and making it a full remix?
Really high quality work - I like it a lot!
Gotta go, find me some single malt!
This is a really beautiful remix. I wonder, if it could shine even more, by having the vocal tracks slightly less out front? At least for my combination of speakers/ears that might lift the entire production up a few notches. The chords work ok for me - I wonder if the mismatch perceived by HM is actually just the byproduct of the vocal tracks being so far out front?
Really nice work in any case!
I like the tension between the smoothness of the orchestral parts and the rough edges you have inserted here and there. Little shots of insulin to go with all that sweetness! And finally an unashamed waltz remix! Really well done!
Great atmosphere and feel! The image of Angelique and PG performing in a small Jazz club with caml twinkling the ivories is very appealing. Reserve a table in the front row for me. I'll wear a tuxedo, and will have my martini shaken, not stirred!
A hot pick on my list any day. Your production is not only technically refined, but also hits the emotional combination of being gentle, yet strong. Just what the theme of the song calls for. The use of original samples in combination with your own additions is superb. Nothing feels forced, everything seems like that's how the song should be. Outstanding remix!
I just realized how sinfully few times I have commented on your remixes. My only excuse is, that I find your remixes very hypnotic. For quite a number of your remixes I have listened several times in a row, just closed my eyes and soaked up the sounds. And I type very badly with my eyes closed!
This remix almost suffered the same fate, but I opened one eye just a little bit, and over four consecutive listenings, was able to write just these few words.
This is just an outstanding interpretation of the song. Great quiet groove, fabulous chord progression. A blend of traditional instruments with experimental treatment. Love that crazy bitcrushed lead guitar in the background!
Du malst ja wieder ganz tolle Sound Landschaften. Experimentelle Kombinationen, die jedoch gut zueinander passen. Und auch gut gespielt auf den dicken und den duennen Saiten!
Finde ich echt ganz ausgezeichnet!
Is that really you, Thukol? So much happiness! And I like it very much!
wonderful idea - and well executed!
mmmhhh - am I the only one, who received this "invitation"?
"Hi.
Can I invite you to listen my last one remix?
It is in the Latest section. Titled: ProgressiveSalala.
I would like very much a your opinion/comment on it.
Thanks, and ciao.
Marco."
Why does somebody with so much musical talent skill and so many dedicated friends (as seen by the very high number of votes for previous remixes) need to send "invitations" like this via the Private Messages?
This makes me too sad to listen to this remix, because rather than listening to this remix, my mind would always be thinking about Monty Python's song about "Spam, spam, spam, .".
What a remarkable body of work you have and still are accumulating. The quintessential yardstick for everyone else. Simultaneously intimidating and inviting. Always worth studying, but best of all, just sitting back and enjoying.
I think I'm starting to understand the "Hot Pick" thing: No need to specifically assign Hot Picks to LS remixes, because it would be redundant.
But at least they could give you your own main menu button "LS Remixes", next to "Top 20" and "Hot Picks".
While the mix is consistent with your understated, subtle and refined style, I would really have loved to hear your guitar work a bit more out front to create more of an obvious and maybe slightly more edgy dialog between the vocals and your guitar playing with all of the other tracks stepping back into a merely supportive role.
But that's a minor nit-pick based on purely subjective personal taste for an overall great remix!
When I look at the average scores of your remixes, it doesn't look like you got very many zero ratings but many 5 star ratings!
On the other hand, if your anger keeps making you do great remixes like this one, please stay angry!
I bow in respect!
Ausgezeichnet!
Translation for our German impaired friends ;-) :
Excellent! The oriental feel is original and really hits the spot.
Maybe the ending of your remix could also serve as a dynamic change in the middle?
Nice to hear your remixes here. I hope there's many more to come!
bloede Umlaute!

A very interesting and (for my ears) unusual mixture of musical influences. Between swing/blues and rather classical and progressive rock sound textures and square feel.
I wonder if there's a bit of a clash of swing parts with square parts?
The sounds are a really interesting mixture, too - and I think they work together very well.
I love the choir that starts just after 1:00 minute. Reminds me a little of some of my favorite Rick Wakeman albums.
Overall a provocative remix, that makes you think. Well done!
I have no idea how you high productivity guys pull off so many remixes! I am in awe! Congrats on this particular interesting one to mark the milestone!
Welcome back! Missed your presence here a lot. Very glad you came out of "retirement" to share your music with us.
AT, you are always so modest.
I really like your composition and arrangement. For my ears, they are amongst your strongest efforts. Just maybe a bit of additional mastering to wrestle those high frequencies into their proper place, and it will be perfect!
A "guess the homage" remix?
I think I recognized 2 homages:
the C64 homage to T. from a song by a nice Canadian girl. Were you aware of the controversy around that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2JjPFd7Jr8
And a little GH from the white album in there, too!

what an uplifting remix
It's so playful, joyful, exuberant. I really like how you contrasted the parts without the beat to the parts with the beat. And yes, what a great intro! - I like your style very much!
Thukol is absolutely right, this remix stands on its own merit any day and thus most certainly deserves a more "selfish" title.
That being said, I'm totally humbled by and grateful for this generous gesture. - Insert deep red blushing icon with silly grin. - Better than getting three hot picks in one day
It has been a truly amazing experience to have a front row seat to the sheer determination and natural talent by Essesq, who has covered incredible musical and technical ground squeezed into precious hours stolen from many a good night's sleep.
Congratulations on an astonishing achievement!
This remix is simultaneously ambient and powerful, exotic and traditional. Combinations of apparent opposites, very difficult to achieve, but in your hands seemingly effortless.
The single note bass line underneath the continuously morphing chords above. The slow buildup of the the drum track (especially the snare) is a tutorial on how to craft rhythmic dynamics. The vocal effects are sublime. Just the treatment of the opening PG line is worth a few listens.
Overall this remix strikes me as very gabrielesque, yet with LS fingerprints all over it. A winning combination!
Congratulations on finishing your giant social and musical experiment! Each part has its own charm (fully worthy of its own remix) and the sum total is an expression of the kaleidoscope of music and personalities that have made this site a very special place for so many of us. Well done indeed!
I always hesitated to ask you for some cello in your remixes, because you had mentioned why you hadn't done it. I'm very glad you made this one exception to that rule.
A real Sacher Torte for the ears! Thank You!
p.s. Good luck with the concerts!
p.p.s. Maybe you could record a concerto for Cello and Computer Games!
This is so far away from the original, yet feels so natural. The 2/4 with a rather pronounced shuffle taking the place of the almost waltz like original is a great idea exquisitely well executed. Wonderful drum/percussion programming, the little psychedelic harpsi drone a perfect accentuation. Your trademark airy jazz chords contrasting the heavy beat. Another astonishingly professional remix, which reveals additional subtleties with additional listenings.
A Hot Pick on my list any day!
Hot Pick in my book!
At around 1:12 I imagined cruising in the batmobile with the top rolled down.
Fabulous remix indeed!
oh yeah! another excellent installment in your collection. I like the slightly darker mood as a contrasting re-interpretation of the original.
What a fabulous remix. It is totally believable - as if this was the original song.
/heading off to get me some of that "Nescafe Classic Mild"
another one of your remixes, which I totally love - how do you do it? Totally enchanting story and remix to go with it.
What a beautiful and thoughtful musical story! Added to my favorites!
Imaginative, intelligent and in-your-face; what a rare and remarkable combination! A remix that deserves to be played at 11!
great remix! The guitars really work for me. The whistling at the end is the icing on the cake. Wish I would have thought of that!
Great idea to bring in some of the musical influences from your neighborhood!
Very tasteful remix! Now I'm curious what ideas you may have for the other remix packs.
while it's clear you have used quite a bit of the original samples, this work travels quite far from being a remix in the traditional sense. Do you have any purely original work somewhere? If yes, this stunning remix really makes me very curious to hear some of that. If not, maybe it's high time to really spread your artistic wings. I love this piece of music!
/me: bobbing head, tapping toes - happy grin on face - Cyprus disco - hot night - pretty girls dancing - a cool Keo beer in my hand - BS at the DJ controls. I'm happy.
And then I woke up and it was still winter here in Canada.
Great remix, BS. Thanks for making me dream for 3 minutes and 50 seconds!
tastey guitar work! Love the solo and the little reminder of BTO right after the solo.
Every one of you has some outstanding remixes yourselves, which I'm totally enamored with and often somewhat intimidated by!
I'm a very lucky person to count such talented and kind individuals as my musical friends.
Thank you for making my day!
chaos theory at its finest
I just wish more rap was as good as this remix. A really nice mixture of the original source material with intelligent additions - and it grooves. What more could you ask for? Great first remix - now I can't wait for your next one!
hehe - great, great fun! Many great little parts well assembled and played. I don't have a religion against fade-outs either.
Innovative composition, playing, production and some incredible transitions. Outstanding remix all around! A Hot Pick on my list any day.
a mini epic in 3 movements - nice use of effects - lots of interesting musical ideas which really work. I like it! A lot!
3 words: wicked ivory work!
aargh, I wish I could spell - that was supposed to read "good enough"
@Bojo: welcome to rwrm! is from my dreams god enough?
@Pooh Bear: Thank you! It means a lot from somebody with exquisite taste in music like yours!
the manipulation of the oud loop really works - a highlight for me, too.
my favorite parts of this remix include that rhythm loop at 1:30 - totally wicked! - and that in your face modulated/arpeggiated phat synth a ton of phun, too
The doctor is in. And he has a prescription for that dub fever: Mix all analog and call him in the morning.
Good to see you back here with another tastefully done remix, DrDub. Hope things are well by the canals
very pretty remix - the birds singing by the ocean. And even a monkey climbing on a palm tree in the background. I see dancing mothers
Not sure if you need the kick/snare track. Sometimes it support the rest of the mix, at other times it maybe detracts a little. I like the way you used the timpani rolls. They add little touches of drama.
Overall a very thoughtful remix to create a dreamy picture. Calls for a drink with a little umbrella in it. Well done!
this is my third visit to your little "sketch" - there's some real magic in the sparseness here - every little sound, every note and crackle has a chance to sink in to full effect - really nice!
superb craftsmanship with sample manipulation complete with in-your-face groove; great concept, fabulous execution. A remarkable remix!
Any Steve Hackett fan is a friend of mine!
Refreshing sound and feel. Very good first remix. The mixing and leveling will come with doing a few more remixes. Very good start to your new remixing career!
"How does he do it?" -- Aaahh, that's how!
A technical marvel, yet musical and a ton of fun. A benchmark remix in so many ways!
Excellent high energy remix! The funky processing on the original samples makes them fresh again, but still recognizable. Added to my fave's.
hints of Depeche Mode - and that's always a good thing!
Well, that sure cleared the dust out of my speakers.
Definitely needs to be listened to at 11! This remix could be used for a TV contest in forensic audio analysis: "name that original sample"
Lots of subtleties in this remix - a thoughtful composition and sonic painting around the rather brief vocal loop. There's many little parts to like, for example the timpanies - the little messing you've done with the acoustic guitar intertwining the slowed original riff with new notes - very elegant. A classy remix throughout!
Mr. Vivaldi, is that you?
a heartfelt thank you for your kind comments:
@Maxwell: a russian spaghetti caravan remix maybe?
@li: welcome to rwrm! I plead guilty as charged - simple joy was had
@raycathode: welcome to rwrm to you as well! some of us needed a bit of lighthearted fun after the heavy topics of the previous remix packs
A great take on this song, AT! I really love the chord progression. A much needed breath of fresh air!
you almost cost me a new keyboard, laughing so hard with coffee in my mouth
- way out there, brilliant!
wow - one great monkey mix; the chords really work - dramatic dynamics - tastey playing all around, nice atmosphere all around. I'm glad I finally bumped into this. An unexpected, but welcome addition to my favorites.
more seriously - while superficially a more in your face simple fun remix, it's still full of subtle touches, which may need more than one listen to catch. Truly excellent work - yet again!
Gr8 phun!
@Ottie: Thank you! Actually, the timpany roll and the atmospheric samples were in the remix pack (I used the WAV file version)
@MaCRoMaRCo: Thank you for your kind words. I find it very interesting how we can have many different pictures in our minds for the same music.
Hello Marco,
Marco, thank you for your kind response. Many of us do not have enough time to comment and do ratings for other remixers. But many of us have decided, to maybe spend a little less time on ourselves and a little more time on our fellow remixers.
I am carefully a little happy, because you have made a small start to commenting. I hope you will continue
I like the harmonies!
I gave 5 stars to all of MaCRoMaRCo's remixes. And then I saw MaCRoMaRCo's Remixer Page, and it made me a little sad:
MaCRoMaRCo has posted 0 times on the forum
MaCRoMaRCo has given an average vote of 5.0000 stars and has rated 3 remixes
MaCRoMaRCo has 3 made remixes.
MaCRoMaRCo has made 1 comment for another person's remix, and all other comments are about MaCRoMaRCo's remixes.

Now I am sad
Great unconventional remix. Breaks a lot of "rules". Power and fragility intermixed. Purposefully without purpose. Eternally hovering, yet moving, swirling like clouds in the wind. No beginning - no end - no story - just there to drink in the sounds. Simultaneously thought provoking and soothing. A remarkable remix!
Yeah - for me this remix really takes off around the 2 minute mark. The strong bottom emphasis makes my subwoofer almost jump with joy
The main theme with the rhythm oud and the bass guitar is a bit PGesque - and one of the highlights for me. The brass towards the end is another nice surprise. Overall an interesting linear approach by continually building. An alternative might be to show off some of the strongest parts a bit earlier, then take a bit of a breather (that's where what is now the beginning might stand out more), and then come back strong again. Really nice work, though!
@tethia: thank you! I'm looking forward to your next remix!
@Vox: and more banjo!
@Shock The Monkey: Thanks! feel/story = chicken/egg ?
This sure put a smile on my face - very cheeky remix indeed. Yet very skillfully executed.
Are you trying to catch Loveshadow for the most remixes at rwrm?
Another fun effort from you!
I just went to your youtube page - you got some cool stuff there, too!
I have a real soft spot for atmospheric soundscapes with a driving beat underneath. This remix really hits that mark! And I like how you are morphing between textures.
Just a small (very subjective) thing - the piece seems rather linear in it's evolution. I find myself hoping for something to return to a previous piece or mood or some connection between the ending of the piece with the beginning. Or maybe it's just that I wish the piece would continue on it's journey!
In any case, I like it a lot and I'm glad you made it!
@pensandonada: and your remix made me smile, too
@savas: Thank you for your nice words. And I feel honored by your request.
But I am sorry - the rules of this website do not allow me to give you my remix or to release it for radio. You can find the rules in the "Terms and Conditions", which you can find through the "Edit your login details" page. A direct link is here: http://www.realworldremixed.com/tandc.php
Since Realworld Records has been so kind to create this site and let us play with some of their and their artist's materials, I feel I should be fair to them and follow their rules.
Really nice tight sound and groove. Never give that M1 away
Oh Yes! The Delay Lama on lead vocals. A perfect choice for this remix. Great!
I love how you overcame the technical hurdles with getting the pitch shifting done. Great story!
This is a beautiful remix indeed. It really works for sitting by the fireplace with the snow falling outside. Moving to a major scale adds some welcome freshness and prevents the melancholy from becoming overbearing. For my ears this remix represents tranquility at it's very finest. Peace at last!
it still mangles it, even when I just type it in
@Schräs - it seems your name got mangled in my message above, when I pasted the text into my browser after composing it offline. sorry about that
I'm am incredibly touched by the generosity of all of your comments. Especially, since I was a bit nervous about submitting this one.
@radiotimes - it's ok to run away for a while, as long as you come back with your next remix
@mfus: your harmonica would have been great in that jam! your ukulele, too!
@audiotechnica: yes, after so much daemon days, I needed a bit of silly
@Synthetic1: Paris, Texas!
@marshpeople: you should definitely record your banjo for your next remix!
@Thukol: Sergio Leone with Enrico Morricone music is the best! Remember Charles Bronson with the Harmonica?
@Loveshadow: Thank you! Your continuing encouragement makes me want to learn more all the time!
@HaveMercy: It was surprisingly hard to keep it natural - especially for someone who likes synths so much
@Robeaux: Yes, I found working with "unplugged" sounds was a nice change for me, too.
@Schräs: You're right, the rhythm was the source for the entire remix: It evolved from exploring and playing with the original samples: The rhythmic chords of the oud track led me to the double-time (polka) feel, so I doubled the speed of the hand claps (removing the snare bits from the snare track). And then I found this little 3 note section in the middle of the acoustic bass track, which created the final feel.
@The_Joe: We could have used some of your funky playing! Eagerly awaiting your next remix, too!
@RizkeyG: I'm trying to learn all the time, so the previous comment is a much appreciated compliment. And I know what you mean to say, too - and that is very kind of you, too - thanks!
@Susy1214: Oh yes, and let the recorder run while you jam with your friends - an then we can get another remix from you!
Brilliant! You are truly going places with your creativity, imagination and wonderfully twisted sense of humor!
You're off to a fabulous start! You may just want to take some of the great musical ideas and sketches in here and maybe branch out into a few separate remixes. That would make each of them a crisper work.
You totally rock on that harmonica of yours! Maybe do a question response thing between your harmonica and/or ukulele playing and selected parts from the remix pack? And then work the other parts to have smaller supporting roles?
Good to have you here! Can't wait for next version(s)!
wow - so many kind comments -
@essesq: "nearly" plausible was as close as I could get
@colab: how did you know that I'm a huge fan of YELLO?
@Pegasus: guilty as charged - definitely silly
@KatyLied: such kind words - blush
- love your nickname - the second half could mean different things - a mystery
@youyou: django reinhardt rules!
Another remarkable piece by you! I do have a total soft spot for this kind of ambient feel.
I love what you did with the oud and how you worked the rest of your remix around that.
p.s. hehe - and you even got L-D'd! Welcome to the club, you now fully belong to an elite circle
living in Canada means some real credibility for winter remixes!
If the vocal thing really bugs you, please do resubmit this even with that small change. This remix deserves it!
You have some really great ideas - I find the play with eq and distortion very intriguing. It adds a real dimension. Really neat stuff! Thanks for sharing that!
It's really nice to see you continually evolve. Your love for music shows and your sense for playing with components is deepening with every remix. And it's good to see you push the technology further, too.
Good job!
And now I can't wait for your next one!
wow - outstanding work! This should be a Hot Pick indeed!
I love the atmosphere. Nice chill. I can understand why you fell in love with the scratch, it's one of the coolest files of the entire pack. And in this remix it provides a bit of the contrasting edge for the otherwise very smooth sound.
Added to my bookmarks as finalist for my favs.
who woulda thunk that a rap could be too short!
I agree, you're overflowing with good ideas and nice feel and sonic texture. Each of the 3 main sections worth their own remix for sure. That would allow you to eleborate and evolve each one some more. Great debut - can't wait to hear more!
this is great, AT! wonderful 3/4, I like the vibraphone idea. Busking at the Hauptbahnhof!
gotta love an X rated remix, especially if it's with a bit of "sin" mixed in!
What a trip it is to listen to this. And entirely in a good way. A wonderful idea exquisitely executed. I had listened to Beethoven's ninth done this way as a result of a forum thread here quite a while ago, but your interpretation of STM strikes me as a more musical work, because of the additional production choices you've made.
Really well done - hauntingly beautiful!
Many interesting ideas. The tuning between the lead vocal and the synthesizer is difficult, because the songs are in different key signatures and in very different BPMs as well. It might work easier, if you chose the lead vocal and the acompanying chord instruments from the same remix pack, and maybe use some drum and other percussion parts from other remix packs. But even that is difficult because all of the songs are in different BPMs.
But you are making good progress - keep going!
I would be very curious what you could do with using the samples from just the "My Secret Bliss" remix pack. There are many parts to choose from and it would all be in the same key and the same BPM, but it's still a good challenge to put it together in a nice sounding way.
oh yeah!
I needed a good high energy remix. Turn the speakers to 11 and let'er rip!
Added to my fav's.
I hear a dark lullaby - not without precedent in the black american spiritual tradition.
The drums as the marching soldiers looming in the distance or the baby's future - or both?
I don't know, if you meant it that way, but to me the drums tie the lyrics into the remix, so I find them vital to the imagery.
Thought provoking remix!
I can practically picture you and your friends jamming with PG. Great playing and really great production in bringing all the parts together in such a natural feeling way. I like it a lot!
oh yesss!! I really like what you do with those vintage analog boxen of yours!
had to come back to add this to my favorites
Great swinging band. Just wondering - did you consider it maybe without the backup choir track? Still a great remix, though!
I really like how you messed with the vocal pitch and other manipulations to give your remix a rough edge to contrast the smooth and rich instrumental production. What a great remix!
It's organic, yet high tech. Very tastefully combined in interesting and original ways. Gets even better with multiple listens. I really like it! My favorite of your remixes so far!
I like it! Atmosphere works well with Skip's voice. Nice choice of chords, too! Really well done!
Great collaboration! The process and the end result sound fabulous!
My heart felt congratulations to the whole team!
I like a lot of the sounds and the atmosphere - much pleasant stuff going on. I just had a bit of a rough time coming to grips with the vocal timing vs the timing of the rest of the mix. At least to my ears they didn't quite connect.
Loved the story though
wow - this is getting weirder all the time. This mix was rated at one star after the first 5 ratings. (see my comment above). I came along and gave it 5 stars, which made the average then sit at 1.66. Now I'm coming back less than a day later and find the average sitting at 5 stars after 8 ratings. I didn't think that was mathematically possible. All I can say is congratulations!
I don't get it - why is this remix is rated so low (at the point of this writing: 1 star after 5 votes)? In any case, I like this remix a lot. Hopefully, this will get rated up as more people hear it.
Hi TM,
thanks for your PM! - couldn't reply though - I think you may have to enable PM's in your profile before I can send you a reply.
again - I am stunned - your music and the story behind it are like a little movie for the mind. Another truly masterful piece by a master sound designer and story teller. Gracias for sharing it with us!
However, now I am hungry for more - I hope you will find the time and energy for another remix or two.
And I love your website, too. And tell your co-designers, that I loved their work, too
I feel like such a fool! How could it take me this long to discover one of the most intriguing remixes on the entire site. This is stunning work. You paint pictures through sounds. And I loved the story, too. It reminded me a little of my favorite author, Douglas Adams.
And I love the fact that you program some of your own VST effects.
I admire your work!
Just stopping by again for another lesson in remixing. Because that's what your remixes have been to me. Your detailed craftsmanship in multiple musical dimensions from additional melodic and harmonic constructions to instrumentation, sounds, delays, reverbs, eq, compression and other sonic tweaks is unsurpassed. Add to that your insane productivity and you're nothing short of intimidating. After listening to this remix, I've had a serious case of "why do I even bother". (Although not remixing here, I've been very busy with my new little project, which was born from here at rwrm.)
While I understand that for some people's tastes this remix may be a little too "clean" - to me it belongs in the context of your entire body of work here where you've explored different genres and textures. Musical taste wise, your EVP remix was probably my favorite so far, but this one got to me as the ultimate lesson - not only in re-"mixing", but in composition around a theme, arranging and playing, The crispness / clarity aid in discerning the individual components you've worked in there and what each one of them does. That's often harder to hear in grittier mixes or musical styles. While in some of your earlier remixes at least I "found some solace"
in being able to argue with maybe a note here or there or maybe the occasional choice of chord - lately you haven't even left that little subjectively perceived imperfection on the table. The only thing I can possibly pick on in this remix are a couple of tiny things in the remixer notes. That's how ridiculous it has become
While you've framed the remix in WW2 terms - and of course the numbers speak for themselves - musically the remix reminds me more of the era of the Vietnam war, and that in turn creates an eerie connection to the present in more ways than one. It could be the theme of a modern day M*A*S*H TV show.
Above all though, I sense that you're at heart still a player/performer, who plainly loves to (= just has to) make music. You've gone so far beyond leaving a few "audio business cards" on this site. And you've been so encouraging to others (including me) who are doing this just for the love of it at varying degrees of experience, skill and professionalism. Thanks for that, too!
If I had multiple user id's or gazillions of friends in Portugal, your remixes would be rated better. Instead you'll have to be satisfied with a measly 5 stars and the occasional appreciative comment.
wow - did this remix ever suffer from drive-by sniping. the anti-LS club must have stopped by on a group outing. Well, at least that means it should go up from here as the people without bones to pick drop by.
Good to see you still around! Hope things are going well for you.
I like the sound and the atmosphere of this remix. This is definitely the kind of stuff I like to listen to in "real life". However this site is a bit of a different thing. It's not equipped and intended to be a continuous listening station, but it's more like a showcase.
Each remix needs to be invoked separately (no such thing as a playlist or streaming web radio), and we as remixers hope that people will take some time out from their own busy daily lives and their own remixing to give our remix a really thorough listen and hopefully even commit some more time and thought to comment on it. And of course all of us remixers are competing for the limited time and attention of our listeners.
So remixes on this site generally tend to be better appreciated, when they are shorter - a lot shorter.
And, as you noted yourself, the length of the remix prevents you from uploading it in a nice high quality format.
I would rather hear a rather short but very high audio quality remix (e.g 320 kbps), since according to your notes, a highly refined audio quality through analog smoothness is a big part of what defines you as a remixer.
So I'm genuinely hoping to hear much more compact in time, but expanded in frequency range remixes from you.
can't believe I bumped into this gem of a remix only now. I like the guitar and drums a lot, yet you left lots of space for numerous subtle details. An intelligent, yet grooving remix.
Good remix, I'm glad I found and had the chance to hear it!
hey TM - I really like this crazy-ass remix of yours! It breaks so many rules, yet connects. There's order in the chaos. There's intelligent thought in the randomness. I shouldn't like this remix but I DO !!!
I listened to it 3 times so far and it still gets better. Added to my favorites!
great atmosphere - just when I thought I was all axed out, you show up with a great remix.
Just one small question: Have you considered making the crazy guitar/drum things a little less in your face loud in the foreground? I really like those parts a lot, but at least for me, they overwhelms the rest of the atmosphere a bit and therefore becomes a bit of a weakness rather than a strength in the overall production.
For example, I'm curious what that part would sound like, if you gave it one of those phone-line/old radio style EQ effects and put it slightly less in front of the mix.
Really impressive remix, though!
Ambitious and thought provoking. I get the sense, you're on the very edge of a great remix here. Your music is following / interpreting the lyrics rather closely and I feel I can follow along rather well.
Although arguably you're not ending in Armageddon though, but in some sort of post Armageddon peace.
If there's one thing that would nudge this remix into greatness (at least for my ears) it might be to solve a bit of a disconnect (melody as well as effects usage) between the vocal track/melody and the rest of the arrangement. Or just have the lyrics as spoken text.
If you're still tempted to continue working on this remix, please feel encouraged. I would love to hear the next version.
the ending made me laugh out loud
You continue to amaze, LS! I'm glad we get to hear this. If all dance music was thought out and constructed this well, I might still go to the disco / dance hall / club (whatever the kids call it these days!)
But now I'm very curious about the "naughty and wayward" 2 minutes and 17 seconds.
I originally listened to this remix at least 5 times in a row on the day it was posted (and 3 or 4 more times just now). And for once I was speechless (or comment-less as the case may be).
Now a week later, this remix is still every bit as powerful, but I'm trying to find my speech: Great premise and execution. The theme and the sound you used for it are haunting, yet lush and the contrast to the EVP totally works. Sorry - I still can't think of a single thing to make this remix any better. You have such great separation of components in your mix - your whole mind must be one big EQ. Simply outstanding! 5 stars aren't anywhere near enough, but that's all I have.
wow!!!! So much change, but it all connects. It's unsettling, yet beautiful. Innovative, yet understandable. Incredibly well done! A well deserved Hot Pick indeed! Congratulations on a great remix!
I really like the way your mind works - remixer notes and musically. There's a bit of a twisted sense of humor in both and I appreciate that!
With this remix, I was slightly worried about a nasty ending to the shower scene, but it sounds like the the only bad thing that happened was that all of the hot water was gone!
Nice string work, too!
wow - what a coming out! congratulations on a great remix! The relative sparseness works really well and redefines the atmosphere of the song.
Your words about hearing music totally differently after getting interactively involved with it ring so true. One starts hearing additional dimensions in the music. It's almost a magical thing .
Again, really good work!
it sounds like you have assembled a medley of ideas here - almost like a little a piece of paper with several sketches which are each waiting to be developed into a full painting.
The two sketches which I found most interesting and would love to see as full paintings are:
* The "Rhythm of Breath" for it's musical groove quality, and
* "latin litanies" - I wonder if that idea could be developed into a second layer of meaning for the lyrics. Could the big single words almost become an overlaid poem? They are a little bit already, but I'm wondering if that great idea could be refined.
I really hope, that you will make at least those two ideas into full musical paintings.
we just had a bunch of snow and cold (first blast this season), so the bells seem eerily appropriate
I love the string section work. Very haunting indeed.
p.s. thanks for the visit at my other place. No furniture yet, but working hard on getting there - hopefully not too much longer.
well, well, well - where's all of that prettiness coming from after the semi-controlled chaos in previous efforts?
What can I say, that hasn't already been said - the intertwining voices are just a fabulous idea that works. They struck me so strongly, that I totally missed the other stuff going on in the beginning until the second listening.
While LS is right (as usual), in recommending good techniques to make the remix a little longer, there's something breathtaking about the quick dive into the full experience of the song. (How is that for tip-toeing around language?)
And I don't mind some of the shorter remixes. There' something very valid about the approach of "I'll briefly make my musical point, and I'm outta here." A fully valid approach just the same as some of the accomplished compilation CD or dance hall ready remixes.
The break in the drum loop about 1:20 into the remix is very dramatic - I'm not sure I can explain it, but that one strikes me as more powerful and having a bit more purpose than the one around 2:30.
Come to think of it - and playing devil's advocate, maybe the one thing I might consider changing, is to actually make the remix shorter rather than longer - i.e. end with the acapella vocals only at 2:30, and never bother returning with the drum loop. i.e. the last 18 seconds almost diminish the power of the remix. A bit like a speaker, who gets to the highlight of the speech, thundering applause, and then rambles on just a little more, when they should have just walked off in triumph a little earlier.
4 big stars from me!

You've gotta be kidding! Never has the tearing down of a building sounded sweeter and happier.
Brings back of memories of classic musical disconnects like the memorable "All Things Dull and Ugly" and others.
Of course great execution (yet again!). The Barry White thing totally works with Skip's vocal track. Great chording - really seamless horizontally and vertically (maybe your very best yet), like it was always meant to be that way. Excellent additional vocal tracks, too.
did you ever receive my response to your "odd" pm?
glory glory hallelujah! I love it!
YES! I agree - this is indeed even more powerful. You've kept the intended darkness, while making it more musical. The combination is really wicked. I'm glad I'm listening to this during daylight
I think the heaviness is justified because of the lyrics. And I like the drum beat, the reversal of the choir - and I assume that is your good guitar work throughout.
Just curious, did you ever try to leave the lead vocal closer to its natural place after you had the other parts and the main mix done? I assume that moving the lead vox that far down was part of the overall process of inspiration for the rest of the song. But now I wonder what your remix would sound like with the voice (which is naturally low and rich) in its regular pitch. It might leave all the power and drama in your remix, put make it a little less gadgety (is that a word?)
If you want to, send me a PM, if it's just a technology issue (i.e. changing tempo without changing pitch).
I really like the atmosphere and mood you've created in this remix. It grooves, yet it has a dreamlike spacious ambiance to it. It's a combination I fall for every time
The vocal parts you have incorporated work great - I just wished there was more.
finally! I was really looking forward to how you would treat this song. I agree with your notes, the vocal track still sounds live and like a real blues voice, maybe the son of Skip? Good remix indeed!
I like the piano melody in the latter parts; the little hammond shots work well, too. Overall a very tasty remix!
Very accomplished remix with a lot of production details. The chords in the verse are a bit on the edge, but still on the ok side for my ears.
Have you tried maybe a deeper/fatter sounding drum kit? I like the drum parts, but in comparison the the rest of the full Hollywood studio orchestra you have engaged for this gig, the drums seem just slightly overmatched
Overall an excellent remix, though!
This works! The marching drums make sense to me in the context of the lyrics and the transition to the funk groove is a real take-off point for the song. And I like the chord progression, too. Well done!
I finally got around to listening to your entire collection here. A real pleasure to hear a pro at work and to have several instances at display.
Lots to learn from you, for an enthusiastic hobbyist like me.
ps. thx for your kind words on my latest effort. Really special coming from a top gun on this site.
Thanks m-m-m-monk
To answer your question, for this particular mix, I used Groove Agent, shuffle half time, but with a custom swing setting to match the feel of the song; used the New Orleans Funk kit; substituted the stock snare with an 1980s deep snare and put quite a bit of convolution reverb (a freebie VST effect called SIR) on the snare and the toms. Finally compressed the whole kit with a 4way multiband compressor.
The bass drums and hand claps in the second verse are midi hand composed - the bass drum is the same as the above described kit and the hand claps are from the sample pack, but enriched with some fast echoes and a bit of convolution reverb, too.
And I think I upped the low EQ on the bass drum a bit to make it sound a bit bigger and looser.
That's as best as I can remember - I'm not in my studio right now
In my other remixes I've used Stylus RMX - some in loop mode, some in Kit mode with humanly played drums.
a very cinematic mix - I like the strings, the treatment of drums/percussion and yes, I can see them march.
wow - this is a really neat remix - I get the sense of a live theatrical performance, it's so visual. I like it a lot!
cool remix; - the super reverb on the choir is a really neat idea;
Have you considered moving your guitar solo to earlier in the song? That might create a bit of additioanl sparkle earlier in the song and create another dynamic highlight returning from the solo into the remmainder of the song.
Good mix!
that's a really hard thing you have attempted - especially because the files in the sample pack don't always line up right, and the tempo changes in them. And they are slightly out of tune compared to A 440 or A 442; there was some discussions in the forum about that.
That pre-echo just before 3:00 sounds neat!
You got really far - hope to see another remix from you soon!
Oh yes! this rocks! the drums are excellent! And the whole mix is tight in the rhythm and it has space in the sounds. Really nice mix - Viva Caracas!
a happy monkey mix - it put a smile on my face - good work warbling and slicing of the samples, they groove - I like it a lot!
really good atmosphere; the stuck note was just slightly overwhelming in my speakers, but I would not take it out - maybe just a little softer. Really neat ideas - I like this version!
"Vielen Dank" for your kind comment to my remix.
I like the happy and bouncing sound in your remix. And I agree with the others, once you slice up the lead vocal track in Cubase and move the various parts to better fitting places in your arrangement, the whole remix will really take off.
A really good start - I hope to hear more remixes from you.
Gruss aus Kanada!
yeah, I like the funky clav, too; - and how you're highlighting Skip's voice. A really good mix, with elements of old skool and some very modern sounds! Well done!
Good guitar domination for a change of pace. There's always something refreshing about playing a good guitar, especially after hours on the computer. Hope you didn't get blisters like I did after my first STM remix, since I hadn't picked up my Ibanez in a very long time, and then couldn't put it down for hours on end
.
After listening to your remix twice end to end, I kept wondering, what if he went from Bb minor to Eb major in the chorus, rather than sticking with the Bbm to Ebm progression. Did you ever consider that? Maybe even just at the very end to give it that last little sparkle of surprise?
Great final mix quality yet again!
Thank you all so much for your kind comments.
radiotimes and HaveMercy - yes, the drum volume is arguable (I went back and forth on the slider many times); in the end I kept them a bit louder, since in a small live room setting, the drums are always a bit too loud
Loveshadow - The drums are programmed - I can hack around on keys, bass and guitar, but playing drums has always been well beyond my reach
- Midi and loops hve been a real gift for someone like me
Thanks for your continued encouragement!
Quite dramatic re-stitching of the song while keeping a surprisingly natural song flow. Not easy, but you did it. Polished sound, too. A really worthwhile remix!
wow - I really like the feel of the chorded beat; and yours is one of the remixes, that really nails those single "shock"s;
The only thing that you might want to consider, is to take a bit of a break from the main beat to create a middle diversion, and then return to the great rhythmic hook. Maybe take the idea from the very end of your remix, put that about two thirds of the way in, expand it by a few bars, end then come back into the groove.
Fabulous idea and nice space in the eq and effects!

Thanks for that spot in your top 10; that's incredibly kind and generous and is something I'll cherish for a long time. As you know I'm not a pro but an enthusiastic music lover with much to learn. Your remixes and comments are helping a lot with that - and your vote spurs me on! Thanks again! /spinmeister
Thanks to you all for the kind and generous comments. You're giving me a big smile
Now that's a nice remix - and good work on the piano! Having the voice and the piano so prominent and the other parts more in the background gives your remix a unique atmosphere.
Thanks so much for your observant, warm and eloquent comments to my remixes. I'm stumped for words, so I'll just blush with gratitude.
Your presence in my top 10 is highly deserved. You've done something very special, by taking a rather public plunge into a world quite far away from your professional background. You've made that jump from consumer to participant and you're implicitly daring others to do the same. That's ultra-cool and I therefore cast my vote accordingly.
However, I do have to admit a little bit of a secret agenda: I really hope that you will feel encouraged to move that midi keyboard of yours close to the computer (or vice versa). Don't stop at manipulating other people's sound snippets. Make some noise yourself and integrate that into your upcoming productions. You've just started to tap a gold-mine of emotional and intellectual reward. I feel strongly about this, because of how rewarding a hobby it's been to me over the years. I sincerely hope, that you will experience similar joy for many years!

good job - sleepless night paid off!
LS going out in style! I really love the groove in this version and the bass totally kills! F-f-f-fine job
I really hope you'll stick around here or if you decide to re-appear somewhere else, you'll give a hint where that might be - I'd hate to lose sight of your work and your general commentary, humour and insight. You're a credit to the music making community!
quite fitting as the final mix
this is nice! I like the textures and overall mood of this mix.
Oh yes - how refreshing and a lot of fun, too! Nice stuff you did with the melody and chord interaction.
love your chords - and the whole mix is remarkable!
one of the nicest I've heard - congratulations!
spinmeister taps toes, tap - tap - tap - groovey baby!
First monkey - yet one of the really good one's. I like the sonic textures - and I like the way the ending hangs. Totally underrated remix.
wow - so many unique ideas and sounds - the highlight for me are the drums. The groove really "sits" and the drum samples/sounds are big and rough. I like it a lot!
I actually like the fact, that your remix is funky and then has that slow part. They help to make each other shine through their contrast, and add a bit of that rough edge which makes life and remixes interesting! Great remix!
wow - you've outdone yourself - no easy feat!
moody, yet moving - great chordings - smooth mastering - the whole package!
after about 1:20, it's got me grooving along. Although, it would have taken me to 3:40 to figure out which song it was
really unique and cool remix!
you may have more than one good remix combined in your work; loved the orchestration ideas; although for my ears, I couldn't quite relate all of the orchestra's chord progression to the melody. Liked the interaction between the vocal tracks. Nice mix!
what a great mix - very underrated so far - allow me to correct that upwards
Thanks for taking the time to stop by my latest and leaving such kind words. Makes me feel warm all over
spinmeister
I'm totally blown away by the distinguished group of remixers and commenters above having such kind words.
Thanks for making this old monkey feel good!
p.s. Simg, I'm humbled! Thanks!
palate thoroughly cleansed
I actually listened to it twice - it is strangely hypnotic indeed.
I really like tension between the chopped / mutilated beats and the wholesomeness of the gentle pads.
Viva C64!
Thanks for your kind comment on my latest.
wow - I love the continuing buildup of the entire arrangement and your treatment of the vocals. Really great all around!
The mellotron sends shivers down my spine! What a hauntingly beautiful take.
Thanks for woofing at my mix. Yours has been on my top 10 since I first heard it on the day of your submission. Stunning technical achievement, very musically executed taking the monkey into a happy place.
Your kind comment made my entire day!
Controlled chaos. I really like it!
I used to listen to Philip Glass quite a bit, back at the time of the monkey (mid 80s). Great memory trip!
Love the piano - I wish I could play like that!
twelve monkeys!
smooooooooooooth!
thanks for your kind comments;
PSD - thanks for re-listening!
L-D - was that really you?
Simg - I'm working on something a bit more different, hopefully completed in a day or two!
marshpeople - yes, the harmonies were a lot of fun to make - gotta love technology - like having PG lay down 4 extra tracks!
Stephen Hawking, is that you?
in places a bit of a YELLO type of groove in the bottom end - I like it a lot!
I love the piano between all that mayhem! Unique and creative!
way to work that sub-woofer! your slow groove thang is a really neat alternative.
nifty chords - interesting sonic journey, almost visual in nature. Really nice work!
Well done indeed! Your mix is a very interesting interaction with PG's source material in rather pure form. Your sense of timing demonstrates real musicality.
At this pace you'll soon outgrow your current toolkit and start messing more with EQ and effects and maybe even become tempted to play a note or two on some instrument
Hey Rodeo Producer!
This mix is so atmospheric and seductive that I really just love listening to this.
For me the mix works very well with the song, although not quite 100% with PG's actual vocal performance in the second half of the verses and the choruses. Ideally speaking, PG would re-record those vocal tracks to better match the feel of this mix. To my ears, that's a general issue with creating a downtempo chilled mix from the given - relatively aggressively performed - vocal tracks.
As in all your work, you're showing off your exquisite mixing skills, and I assume you're playing most, if not all of the original parts - very tasty indeed.
p.s. indeed, spiders we all are, but hopefully this is not quite day 7!
Wow - you really threw everything into your remix! Impressive orchestration with a lot of detail craftsmanship. The genre reminds me a bit of American orchestral rock like Meatloaf.
Funny thing, my remix (Monkey Dreams) got a comment that I had maybe thrown too much into just one mix. But now your production makes mine sound rather empty!
I like the pads, chordings, vocal effects and general subtle background action a lot.
A little less sure about the fit between the BD/bass rhythm and the inherent rhythm of the lead vocal track. To my ears they live a bit too much side by side in most places, rather than being together or complementing.
However in some places there's almost a question response between BD/bass and vocal - those are great!

I like the flamenco guitar and strings a lot - you might even want to go further with it - remove even more of the original parts (bass, e-guitar) and go with your own parts to fully explore your production idea.
I really like the chord progression very much in most places (it's something I have experimented with, too - although slightly less radical than you). Just a couple of spots sound a little odd to my ears - they seem to work with the lead vocal, but maybe clash a bit with the bass track? Doing your own bass track might make it easier to get the full treatment of your chord progression.
Or a more radical thought: The flamenco guitar and the string section ideas are each strong enough to get their own full treatment in two remixes. - I'd love to hear what you might do with that!
Some nice and fun potential in that remix. However to my ears the vocals tracks sound rather disconnected from the instrumental arrangement. This goes for timing as well as for the chords, which sound disconnected from the vocal melody.
Thanks for listening and the thoughtful critique, Loveshadow. And that wasn't even all of my toys yet :)
Point well taken, though - I did cram quite a number of ideas into this mix
oh yes, those chords! the keyboard cheese is totally brilliant, too - very well conceived and executed. I couldn't help smiling throughout!
it's almost like you have two songs in there, before and after around 2:45 - very interesting!
if this was a movie, it could be the same song carried in two successive, but rather different scenes.
tasty drums and vox, too - I like it!
what could be better than analog love
***** !
Thanks for the kind comments so far.

"Hall and Otes jamming with ELO" I like that
Nice feel! Wow, how many Ibanez tracks do you have in there? So many intelligent subtleties - a mix to lay back in front of the fireplace, close your eyes, and let it all soak in. Well done indeed!
wow, what mayhem - where did you get all of those wonderful noises?
This remix sounds like a great 80s jam session with PG on vox. Call me old fashioned, but I like your alternative chord progression. It's fresh, while still maintaining a genuine fit for the melody.

autotuned PG? wicked in so many ways!
